Developing insight through intentional connection.
Engaged Awareness is a private practice conveniently located in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. Counseling & psychotherapy services are available for adults who are seeking to heal from trauma, address their substance use, or cope with mood and anxiety symptoms.
Grounded in a desire for social justice and with a strong foundation of working in community based nonprofits, Engaged Awareness also offers consulting to social service organizations. Areas of interest include training in clinical concepts, program design and evaluation, and using best practices to craft policies and procedures.
Stephanie Seals is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Registered Dual Disorder Professional (RDDP) with a variety of skills in psychotherapy, program management, strategic planning, and capacity building.
Stephanie has worked with people experiencing homelessness, people living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illness, people struggling with substance use disorders and/or serious mental illness, survivors of domestic violence, and people who have been marginalized and oppressed. She is passionate about bringing a trauma-informed approach to her work and to those she supervises. Aspects of being trauma-informed include radical compassion paired with the belief that people are inherently good. Due to her understanding that change is hard, Stephanie draws heavily from harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and strengths-based perspectives. Additionally, she is trained on trauma specific interventions such as EMDR and Internal Family Systems. Finally, Stephanie is a registered yoga teacher and certified meditation teacher, and is undergoing a 1,000 hour training program to be credentialed as a yoga therapist. She often incorporates aspects of these practices into her work.
Aside from private practice, Stephanie enjoys supervising new clinicians and student interns, developing trainings, and finding solutions to organizational challenges.
In her personal life, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her spouse, daughter, cat, and dog. She tries to keep up with current events, make time for yoga and meditation classes, slowly work her way through her list of books to read, and do crafty things like sewing or beading.
